Brighton Automotive presented the annual Canada Day Championships with a fireworks display by Mystical Distributing and Corey Earl in his #11 Late Model, Ryan Scott in his #33 Modified and Tom Vance in his #43 Comp 4 all used the double points, extra distance races to open up their points leads in their respective divisions. Meanwhile Doug Anderson #72 Pro Stock and Del MacGregor #19 Stinger used the double point’s night to take over the points lead in their division. Driver’s had to hit the track early for time trials in each division that would set up the starting line ups for the night and top honours for the Custom Carts of Trenton Pole Awards.
The Quinte Septic Stinger feature was up first and earlier leader #95 Christopher Lammle had technical difficulties forcing him to leave the track. This left a three car battle between #17 Jeff Inia, #19 Del MacGregor and #42 Andy Fletcher. MacGregor and Fletcher battled it out for a few laps but eventually it was MacGregor using the highline to secure the victory over Fletcher and Inia.
The OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds were up next and Fast timer on the night #12 Adam Whaley sat on the Custom Carts pole position with #33 Ryan Scott. Whaley got the early lead in the 40 lap event but Scott was persistently on his tail. On lap ten Scott would make a move to the outside of Whaley and take over the top spot. Scott would open up a little lead and #87 Andrew Hennessy would now try and work over Whaley for second. Hennessy would get by Whaley on a restart past half way and set his sights on Scott. Hennessy had his nose up under Scott a number of times but Scott was wise enough not to give up the bottom of the track. Scott would have to hold on through a couple of late race restarts to take his second win of the season. Hennessy held on for second well Whaley was able to nurse his fading #12 to a third place finish.
In the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 division current points leader #43 Tom Vance sat in the Custom Carts pole position and would lead wire to wire never really being challenged except on the few restarts that there were. Vance’s team mate #44 Brandon Wilkie would take second place followed by #11 Adam Flieler with his best finish of the season.
Charlie Sandercock would sit in the Custom Carts pole position for the Vanderlaan’s Building Supplies Late Models thanks to his fast lap 15.175 set earlier in the night but it was #09 Mat Vanderlinden who would get out to the early lead. Vanderlinden and Sandercock would battle side by side for the first 15 laps with each sharing a piece of the lead. Sandercock was able to take a slight lead on Vanderlinden who was now being challenged by #11 Corey Earl and #42 Adam Nayler. The top four cars got bunched up coming out of two with a pile of lapped cars in their way, by the time they had hit turn three Earl and Vanderlinden had snuck through for positions one and two while Sandercock fell all the way to fourth place. The remainder of the race was in Earl’s hands as he fended off a number of challenges from Vanderlinden and Nayler. Earl would calmly hold on for the win as he has done all season. Nayler would come home second while Mr. Consistency #5 Steve Baldwin ran a steady race and came home third.
The Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks were lead to the green flag by the Custom Carts pole sitter #72 Doug Anderson. Anderson would lead from start to finish and was never really challenged. Behind Anderson there was a great battle for second between #2 Leslie Mowat, #83 Jay O’Hara and #23 Rob Perry. At the end of the 30 lap event Mowat was able to fend off the boys for second and O’Hara crossed in third.
