Kart Klub Action On The Short Track

For Immediate Release: Kiwanis Club of Trenton Kart Klub Race Report

August 6th, 2018

As the summer rolls on so does the racing season at the Brighton Speedway. The Kiwanis Club of Trenton Kart Klub was back in action last Thursday night.  The points battles are heating up as in many of the classes one bad night could be a deciding factor in crowning this years champions.

Trenton’s Tyler Green and Port Hope’s Bryce Massey led the field of Box Stock karts to starter Leslie Mowat as the green flag was thrown. The 33 of Rhys Massey took the low line and jumped out to the early lead trying to put space between her ride and the rest of the class.  The lead was diminishing as hot shoe Colby Butcher reeled in the 33, a nice move using lapped traffic Butcher was able to make a pass and was able to pull off another win on the season.  The 33 of Massey was 2nd, followed by Brody Davidson, Bryce Massey and Tyler Green.

A tight field of 8 Rookie 1 karts were on the line next, MacIntosh Motors sponsored kart of Nolan Chatten and Apex Graphics Kolby Ellis were on the point as they rolled off turn 4.  ‘High Side’ Kolby Ellis started clicking off laps as fast as he could followed closely by Coleson Gregory and Ethan Dobb as they waited for their chances.  After many attempts Gregory was able to move to the inside of Ellis and take the lead, Dobb followed through to the 2nd spot. The top 2 were able to hold their spots to the finish –  CPS Wood Products Coleson Gregory with the win, North Shore RV of Dobb 2nd, Gabe Miller picking up 3rd, with Nolan Chatten and Ethan Humphry in the top 5.

Next up the Junior Sportsman 1 division led by Tyson Cooper and Gordie Miller took the green. The 37 of Cooper used the inside as he stayed in the top spot and ahead of the action behind him. The Brighton Tire kart of Garren Taylor made his way past Miller and moved to the 2nd spot. Havelock’s Cooper McKeown charged hard from his 6th place starting position and challenged Miller for the 3rd spot.  A green to checker 10 lap feature gave Tyson Cooper the win, Garren Taylor with a smooth 2nd, McKeown 3rd, Hotch’s Auto Parts Miller 4th and the 99j of Jace James in 5th.

A 4 wide start made for some precision driving by the Rookie 2 class getting to the first turn. The Davidson Excavating 26 of Callie Mahoney got the inside and the lead, Trenton’s Geoffrey Boates was on a mission on the hot Thursday as he chased down and passed Mahoney – and never looked back, It was Boates with his first win of the season, points leader Tyson Gregory made it to the 2nd spot, followed across the line by Mahoney, Ashton Sanderson and Rush Waite.

Keira Turner and Lexi Lucas led the field of 6 Junior Sporstman 2 karts to start their feature. But it was the Lawns We Do kart of James Markland and the Concrete Plus 66 of Carson McKee taking the top spots early, the 2 traded paint and stickers multiple times with Markland just being able to hold the advantage and the inside line. That’s how they finished up – Markland with the win, McKee 2nd, Patriots Excavating sponsored kart of Lexi Lucas with a nice smooth 3rd followed by Turner and the 05 of Leland Pinch.

8 High powered Junior Resticted machines rumbled around the little oval ready for 15 hard laps. The Drain-All kart of Kaitlyn O’Bleins and Carquest Trenton’s Chandler Leclair were ready – O’Blenis pulled out front with McDonald Homes Cole McKeown in tow. McKeown made a move to take the top spot putting O’Blenis to the high side as the field filed past. Late race misfortune caused the 11 of McKeown to head pitside as Picton’s Holly Denard moved and Trenton’s Kyle Anderson slid by. In the end it was Anderson crossing the line 1st, Denard 2nd, O’Blenis charged hard to make it back to 3rd, Anthony Rinaldi and Chandler LeClair rounded the top 5. Anderson was scored with a 0 on the night after failing post race tech Inspections.
