BRIGHTON – A full pit area brought some of the best racing the Brighton Speedway Kart Klub has seen yet this year.
Markland tops Box Stock 1As
James Markland (No.21 Lawns We Do) started on the pole for the 10-lap feature, but had a tough contender in Claire McDonald (No.17 McDonald Homes) outside the front row. McDonald grabbed the early lead and held it until the halfway mark. Markland took the lead on lap five just before McDonald spun to bring out a caution. That left Markland the leader for the restart and he cruised to the victory ahead of Jace James (No.99J), McDonald, and Nathan Shorts (No.20 Towne and Country Liquidation).
Greig wins Box Stock 1B feature
Ryan Post (No.11R Free Flow) and Asher Heard (No.52 State Farm Insurance) led the second half of the box stock division was led to the green flag. Heard took the lead to the first corner before Max McDonald (No.5 McDonald Homes) grabbed the point down the backstretch. McDonald surrendered the lead after a pair of spins. Ryan Greig (No.48 Greig Truck and Trailer) assumed the lead and battled to a victory ahead of Heard, Post, and McDonald.
Rinaldi steals Sportsman win
Rinaldi brothers Anthony (No.77) and Nathan (No.3) led the field to start the 15-lap Sportsman feature. Anthony led early before the two front-row starters battled side-by-side for a pair of laps leading to halfway. Anthony held the lead until lap 10 when Nathan used a turn one pass to take over the point. He would lead the final five laps en route to the victory. Anthony held on to second ahead of Kyle Anderson (No.17A Hunt’s Bobcat Service) and Andrew Young (No.29A J&J Automotive).
Denard wins Box Stock 2 feature
Holly Denard (No.02) and Kaitlyn O’Blenis (No.23k John’s Car Care) led the Box Stock 2 field to green. Denard took the lead on the opening lap and never looked back, leading all 10 for the victory. A red flag stopped the race on lap six when four karts got together in turn two. Cole McKeown (No.11 McDonald Homes), Brennan Moore (No.35B Lyons Goodfellow Furniture), Cole Perry (No.23 Excel Tower Service) and O’Blenis tangled. Moore got the worst of the wreck and did not finish the race after getting medical attention, but was okay. Denard held on for the victory over Brockville Speedway regular Jordan Wood (No.18J Riverside GM), O’Blenis, McKeown, and Jaiden Mattice (No.J3 Moroni’s Restaurant). Perry, Raiah Lough (No.07), Emma Terpstra (No.22) and Moore.
Burrows’ dominance continues
Michaela Lough (No.88x) and Nathan Rinaldi (No.3 BrightonSpeedway.com) brought the Junior Restricted division up to speed for the 15-lap feature. Carissa Burrows (No.33c) passed the front two though exiting turn two. Burrows then set her kart to cruise control and led the remainder of the race by a full straightaway over Rinaldi. Hannah McCrory (No.49 Apex Graphics) battled to third after a wreck a week ago. Lough finished fourth.
