John’s Equipment Danny Reid Memorial Headlines Championship Weekend!

BRIGHTON, Ont. – September 6, 2016 – Brighton Speedway will crown five division champions on Saturday night and the Danny Reid Memorial will be centre stage. The 50-lap, $2000-to-win event for the Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds will crown the champion in that division’s biggest race of the year.

The Danny Reid Memorial is held annually in memory of the late Danny Reid who passed away during an event at Brighton Speedway in 2005.

Andrew Hennessy is the defending Danny Reid Memorial winner and has locked up the 2017 Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modified championship. So far this year, Hennessy has not finished outside of the top-five in all 16 events with 5 wins and his worst finish of the season a 4th place.  Hennessy holds a 230-point lead entering the final event. The maximum number of points a driver can earn in a single night is 200.

The battle for second between two drivers that both picked up wins this past weekend at the Labour Day Classic.  Curtis King holds a 130 point lead over Kraig Handley, both have got their fair share of feature wins (4 each) this season but encountered some bad luck allowing Hennessy to distance himself down the home stretch.  Doug O’Blenis sits in fourth coming into the Danny Reid Memorial with 3 feature wins on the season.

Late Model Championship Still Up For Grabs!

The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models come into their final Points night with Brandon Mowat the closest driver being able to keep Charlie Sandercock from winning his 5th Pro Late Model Championship.  Mowat has been extremely hot as of late winning the last two features in a row.  Mowat currently sits 95 points behind Sandercock coming into the last night of the championship chase.  2016 Champion Phil Potts still has a mathematical chance at the championship but remains a long shot 190 points back or Sandercock and 95 points behind Mowat.  Kyle Sopaz and Steve Baldwin have only 10 points separating them for 4th and 5th place respectively going into the final point’s night.

French Has To Fend Off Humphries To Repeat!

Tyler French looks to take his second Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Championship.  But unlike last year when he had the championship locked up going into the final night French will not be able to coast through the night as Jeff Humphries will be pushing hard to close the 125 point gap that separates the top two.  Matthew Moore sits securely in 3rd place with Adam Flieler and Josh French rounding out the top 5 coming into the night.

Stingers Super Close Points Battles To Be Decided!

The Quinte Septic Stinger divisions both have tight points battles. Just 85 points separate Brittany Golden and Chris Lammle at the top of the Super Stinger Standings.  Jordan Pickell, Megan Golden and Rick Phillips all still remain in the hunt and have a shot at the championship.

In the Junior Stinger division, Joel Dempster and Aidan Fletcher remain in a dead heat tied a top of the standings going into the final night.  But the tight race doesn’t end there as Willy Bulten, Caleb Severin, Brock Gregory and Mike Beaudrie all have less than 200 points between them and a 2017 championship!

Anderson Returns to Championship Form

The Brighton Automotive Pro Stock are off from action on Saturday, September 9 to allow drivers to compete in the third combined race for the Duel on the Dirt Pro Stock Series at Merrittville Speedway, however their championship was decided this past Sunday at the Labour Day Classic.

Doug Anderson returned to the championship circle beating out 2015 / 16 champion Justin Ramsay by a mere 25 points.  Ramsay did all he could by winning the final points race of the year but Anderson needed to finish in the top 6 to hold on to the championship and he made his way through the tough field to 4th position.

Adult admission for the Danny Reid Memorial is $15 and $13 for Youths and Seniors. A family pass, valid for two adults and two youths, is $40. Grandstand gates open at 5:00pm on Saturday, September 9. Hot laps start at 6:00pm and racing begins at 7:00pm. Additional event information is
