Battle is hot in Thursday Night Kart Klub action

Three points nights left in the season brought the Kiwanis Kart Club to the Brighton Speedway one more time.  The action proved to as exciting as it was hot.  We even had some new faces in victory lane.  Fifty-two karts filled the infield area.

Brody Davidson and Ryhs Massey were hard on the gas pedal to start the Box Stock feature event.  As they rounded the first corner Colby Butcher in the APC machine made a move from his third space starting position and grabbed the lead and never looked back.  As the race continued behind him, the 80 of Brock Beattie was able to make his way past Davidson and Massey who ran side by side for multiple laps.  Crossing the final flag, it was Butcher, Beattie, Davidson and the Massey team round out the top five!

Brighton’s Kolby Ellis and Campbellford’s Finley Mahoney led the pace lap of the eight kart Rookie 1 class.  Starter Leslie Mowat showed the green and the RACE WAS ON!  With many hard chargers coming from the rear of the field it was an exciting race.  From the first lap Ellis in the Apex Graphics 89 took charge.  As Flyin’ Ethan Dobb and last week’s feature winner Colson Gregory picked off positions.  In the end, it was Ellis holding on for his first win of the season over a great 2nd place run by Ethan Dobb, Nolan Chatten, Callie Bristow and Colson Gregory.

The Junior Sportsman 1 division were next up on the grid with Ryan Greig and Jace James locking down front row starting positions. The 48 of Greig held the low line and was able to pull to a 4 kart lead on the field, behind him you could throw a blanket over the rest of the 8 kart race. It was an all out battle between the 15 of Gordie Miller, 99j Jace James, Rowley Electric’s Garren Taylor, and the McDonald Homes entry of Cooper McKeown. As laps clicked off Greig was able to hold his advantage and come up with a win. Madoc Home Hardware’s Miller 2nd, James 3rd, followed closely by McKeown and Tyson Cooper making a run to 5th.

Doug’s Auto Glass kart of Rush Waite and Hastings Home Hardware kart of Callie Mahoney paced the Rookie 2 class, a well prepped track and the sun setting made for a great Thursday night at the Brighton Speedway. Three wide action for the first 2 laps of the feature finally sorted itself out and points leader Tyson Gregory was able to make it through to take the lead. Holding a steady wheel and cruising to another victory on the season the Cole’s Timbermart 01 crossed the line first, followed by Trenton’s Geoffrey Boates, Mahoney, Waite and Ashton Sanderson rounded the top 5.

Karts were given the OK on the line up and the Junior Sportsman 2 feature was underway – led by Bailey Andrews and Leland Pinch both out of Trenton. The Action Towing 91 of Andrews held the early lead with Napanee’s Carson McKee making multiple attempts at a pass, finally the 66 of McKee squeezed by with 21 James Markland in tow. That is how it finished despite a last corner attempt at the line, it was McKee, Markland, Image Landscaping’s Carson Down was on a rail as he finished 3rd coming from 7th,  Andrews and Lexi Lucas finished the top 5.

As always, the much-anticipated Junior Restricted division rolled out next.  Bellevue Fabricating’s Cole McKeown and CarQuest’s Chandler LeClair brought the field to green.  A super tacky racing surface made for some flat foot crazy fast laps as pole sitter Cole McKeown used his inside spot to run and hide from the rest of the pack.  Fast laps throughout the field and tight racing caused a scary late race incident as Picton’s Holly Denard all but rolled on the front stretch bringing out a red flag and pausing the action.  When action resumed Brighton Speedway’s Anthony Rinaldi used a nice tight line off of corner 2 to get the lead from McKeown.  As the checkers fell it was Rinaldi with the win, Kyle Anderson following through for 2nd, McKeown 3rd, Koen O’Hara and Kaitlyn O’Blenis 4th and 5th respectfully.

This week is a week to regroup and recover for the Kiwanis of Trenton sponsored Kart Klub as action will resume Thursday August 23rd at 7:00 pm with only 2 remaining events in the points.
