Dan Ferguson’s Perfect Night Earns Driver of the Week

11FergusonVLBRIGHTON (July 8 ,2105) – Dan Ferguson kicked off the month of July with a perfect trifecta at Brighton Speedway and set a new Canadian Modified track record in the process to earn Driver of the Week honours for July 4.

The July 4 Mid-Season Championships proved to be an exceptional night for the ‘Bloomfield Bullet’, who pulled double duty as the pilot of the Rand No.84 Late Model as well.

Ferguson started the night with a new track record in single-car time trials, turning a lap of 15.598 seconds behind the wheel of the Kilmarnock Enterprise/Mark Heating and Cooling No.11, shattering the previous record of 16.374 seconds.

A four-car invert placed Ferguson fourth on the starting grid for his heat race. The No.11 had no issues and won the qualifying heat.

Ferguson took the lead on lap 13 and was flawless over the final 27 laps on route to the victory over Doug O’Blenis. It was an exciting start to July after a successful June when Ferguson finished on the podium in all three starts. The team now has two wins, six top-fives, and seven top-10 finishes in seven starts. “Hopefully luck stays on our side because we’ve pretty lucky the last couple of weeks. Everything’s been going good,” said the Picton, Ont. native.

11FergusonFerguson’s win combined with Andrew Hennessy’s fourth-place finish on a double points night vaulted the No.11 to the point-lead. The chair atop the standings isn’t exactly sturdy though, with a number of tough competitors in contention.

“There’s always a little bit of pressure. When you’re the point leader, there’s no time to lay back and think you’ve got a big lead,” said Ferguson. “You just want to go and finish in the top-three every night. At the end of the year, if all your cards aligned, then you’re going to be up there.”

It’s a busy stretch approaching for the Canadian Modified drivers, who are scheduled for 10 consecutive weeks, including the Danny Reid Memorial.

“You just keep trying to plug away, being consistent and finishing up front. There’s still 200 points up for grabs every night. You have to race hard and get as many points as you can,” said Ferguson.

Ferguson will be back in action again on Saturday, July 11 for the second round of the Rona Trenton Canadian Modified Triple Crown, presented by Electro Cables and Van Zuylen Tire.
