2016 June 11 PosterBRIGHTON, Ont. – JUNE 7, 2016 – Brighton Speedway’s 49th season of racing continues on Saturday, June 11 with the return of the Gord’s Water Vantastics along with a full card of five divisions on Bay Marine, Towne & County Liquidation and UCB Radio Canada Night. The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models, Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, Bill’s Johns Comp 4s and Quinte Septic Stingers are all in action as well. Adult admission for the event is just $10 with the first green flag schedule for 7:00pm.

UCB Radio Canada will be a part of the night ahead of Sunday’s MRN broadcast of the Firekeepers Casino 400 from Michigan International Speedway across the UCB Radio network, including Cobourg 90.7FM and Belleville 102.3 FM.

Saturday’s season-debut for the Gord’s Water Vantastics marks the first of twomini van races this season. TheVantastics are a unique form of racing with two people in the van. One person acts as the driver and another as the navigator around obstacles purposely setup around the 1/3-mile oval. The result is often wacky and wildly entertaining racing. The Vantastics will also race on July 30.

The Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks compete in their first home track qualifier race for the Duel in the Dirt Series. The four-track challenge series between Brighton, Humberstone, Merrittville, and Ohsweken Speedways will see each track host two home track races and one combined series race. The second home track race will take place at Brighton on July 16 before the series finale as part of the Applefest Shootout weekend on September 24. Trenton driver Justin Ramsay won the 2015 edition of the series.

The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models have been the most competitive division so far. No driver has won more than once with five different winners in five races. The tight competition has produced a tie at the top of the standings between defending champion Charlie Sandercock and Brandon Mowat with 830 points apiece. Brighton’s Phil Potts sits third, 30 points behind the leaders and Adam Turner trails him by just five points in fourth. Steve Baldwin sits fifth just 45 markers off the point lead, the equivalent of 4.5 A-Main finishing positions.

Andrew Hennessy became the first repeat winner in Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified competition last week. Three different drivers have gone to victory lane in four events this year. Hennessy leads Bloomfield’s Dan Ferguson by 20 points in the standings. Kraig Handley sits third in the standings without a win, but with four top-five finishes in as many races to his credit. May 14 winner Doug O’Blenis is fourth in the standings ahead of Belleville’s Derrick Greig.

In Bill’s Johns Comp 4 action, Tyler French has been the class of the field thus far. The Trenton driver won his fourth main event of the season last Saturday night, leaving Adam Flieler as the only other driver to have reached victory lane in 2016. Josh Read, however, occupies second in the championship standings with his five straight top-five finishes. Rookie driver Matthew Moore sits fourth in the standings with three top-five and Peter Moore completes the top-five.

The Quinte Septic Stingers have not seen a repeat winner in either division. Rick Phillips was the May 14 winner in Super Stinger competition and leads the standings over May 28 winner Chris Lammle. Brittany Golden, who won the Junior Stinger main on May 28, is the current point leader for that division over Dylan Lobb and May 14 winner Chantel Golden.

Spectator gates will open at 5:30pm for Saturday’s event. For additional event information, please visit www.brightonspeedway.ca.
