Saturday’s event is the biggest event of the season. The DIRTcar 358 Modifieds headline the night with a $5,000-to-win event. A massive $6,000 prize is up for grabs in the Go Nuclear Late Model Series second visit of the season for the 6th annual Great Crate Race. The rescheduled John’s Equipment Danny Reid Memorial is on tap as well with $2,000-to-win in the 50-lap race. The Super DIRTcar Sportsman Series return for a second night and another $1,000-to-win show. The final combined race of the Duel in the Dirt Pro Stock Series is also on the card with $1,000 up for grabs to the winning driver.

All three DIRTcar 358 Modified and DIRTcar Sportsman races will follow DIRTcar tour rules with group time trials to determine the starting lineups for qualifying heat races. Top finishers in heat race will redraw for starting positions in the feature with the remainder of the cars lined up heads up. The number of redraw cars as well as B-Mains will be determined by the number of cars entered.

Five drivers have etched their name in the DIRTcar 358 Modified portion of the Applefest Shootout history books. Three drivers have won the event twice, including Mario Clair (2007, 2013), Pete Bicknell (2008, 2010) and Erick Rudolph (2014, 2015). Kyle Dingwall won the inaugural event in 2005 and Tim O’Brien picked up a victory in 2011. The race was rained out in 2006, 2009 and 2012.

Seven different drivers have won the DIRTcar Sportsman part of the event. Gary Lindberg is the only driver to have won twice with victories in each of the past two years. Shane Pecore (2013), Cody McPherson (2012), Chris Herbison (2010), Nic Cupolo (2009), James Michael Friesen (2008) and Mark D’Ilario (2007) have also won in a Sportsman at Applefest.

Entering the weekend, Pecore leads the Super DIRTcar Sportsman Series standings with two wins in eight series starts this season. Martin Pelletier, a regular at Quebec’s Le RPM Speedway is second in the standings ahead of Mohawk Raceway regular Louie Jackson Jr.

The Great Crate Race has seen four different winners over the first five editions of the race. Dale Caswell of West Monroe, NY is the only repeat winner with back-to-back wins in 2014 and 2013. Trenton’s Charlie Sandercock is the most recent winner after capturing his first Great Crate Race title in 2015. Lee Gill of Lafargeville, NY won the inaugural race in 2011 while Chuck Meyers claimed the victory in 2012. The Go Nuclear Late Model Series is the official sanction again for this year’s race. Sandercock leads the Go Nuclear Late Model Series standings over fellow Brighton regular Brandon Mowat.

Phil Potts leads the Brighton’s Pro Late Model standings by 45 points over Sandercock entering Friday’s final point night of the season, leaving the championship up for grabs. Three other drivers have already clinched track championships including Andrew Hennessy with the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified, Justin Ramsay with the Brighton Auomotive Pro Stocks and Tyler French with the Bill’s Johns Comp 4s.
