KART KLUB ACTION BACK AT BRIGHTON SPEEDWAY

Kart Klub

The Kiwanis of Trenton sponsored Brighton Kart Klub hit the track this past Thursday night.  Another beautiful July day led to threatening clouds rolling in to the north and south of the speedway caused officials to be on their game and ran off the full race program without issue.

The 5-7 year old Box Stock class came to the line first with Bryce and Rhys Massey out of Port Hope leading the way.  Hard out of the box was the 29 of Colby Butcher coming from his 4th place starting position to take the early lead from Massey.  A late race bobble by Butcher gave a chance to a hard charging Brock Beattie using the outside line, it was a tough night for the 80 of Beattie as he ended up facing the wrong direction in 2 occasions. Rounding the final corner it was Butcher with the win, Rhys Massey 2nd, Brody Davidson fighting for the 3rd spot followed by Beattie and the Trenton Window and Glass kart of Cole Robson in the 5th spot.

Rookie 1 was up next with Bellevue Fabricating Kolby Ellis and Hotch’s Auto Parts Gabe Miller setting them up. Miller and Ellis swapped spots as Coleson Gregory made his way forward from the 4th spot.  It was a 4 kart battle for the win but in the end it was Gregory picking up the top spot, Miller 2nd, Ethan Dobb fighting back for a 3rd, with Ellis and Nolan Chatten rounding out the top 5.

With no delay a big class of 10 Junior Sportsman 1 karts were rolling – on starter Leslie Mowat’s green it was Image Landscaping’s Jacob Down and the 99j of Jace James hard on the throttle. Down pulled the early lead until the 71 of Trevyn McCrillis made a nice move to the inside and take the point. The Vanderlaan Building Products 71 of McCrillis was able to hold it until the final checkers and take the win, Down picked up 2nd, followed by James, Ryan Greig and points leader Cooper McKeown up to 5th.

An undefeated Tyson Gregory had his eyes on another win in the Rookie 2 division. Rush Waite and Ashton Sanderson had the clear track ahead as they took the green. A nice move to the inside gave Campbellford’s Callie Mahoney the lead, while points leader Gregory had early trouble.  As the laps counted down the Patterson & Sons Groundworks 01 of Gregory made his way up and into the lead for the win. Mahoney finished a strong 2nd, followed by Geoffrey Boates, Rush Waite and the 28 of Ashton Sanderson.

9 karts rumbled around the clay oval to start the Junior Sportsman 2 feature event led by the 66 of Carson McKee and the 55 of Carson Down. The Image Landscaping 55 of Carson Down took off to a commanding lead and proved he had the kart to be beat.  Back in the racing action of the 10 lap main event hard charger James Markland made his way to the 3rd spot behind McKee.  An out of character misstep and spin by leader Carson Down was all the help Napanee’s Carson McKee needed as he picked up the top spot and inherited the win.  Markland 2nd, Down made a last effort to get back to 3rd , followed by points leader Cameron Bristow and Belleville’s Lexi Lucas.

To finish off the night in fine fashion the Junior Restricted class hit the track for their 15 lap feature.  Brighton Speedway’s house kart of Anthony Rinaldi and Danny Mawer Stair and Rail’s Emma Terpstra let the methanol burn as they rounded turn 4.  Rinaldi pulled out to the lead and looked like he had the 9 kart field covered as night set in, Brockville Speedway regular made short work of his 7th place starting spot and reeled in Rinaldi to take the lead and the win, the 7 of Rinaldi 2nd, points leader Holly Denard 3rd followed by Terpstra, and Koen O’Hara.
