By Clayton Johns

BRIGHTON (September 24, 2015) – Brighton Speedway is set for its biggest event of the season, the Part Source Applefest Shootout which kicks off on Friday, September 25. The race weekend will feature five prestigious races with eight different divisions competing over the course of the two-day show.

PecoreThe action heats up on Friday, September 25 with the only visit of the season for the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds. Drivers from Cornwall, Brockville, Merrittville and Humberstone Speedways are all expected to be in attendance. Cornwall’s Shane Pecore has confirmed his attendance at the event and will look for his second Applefest win following his 2013 triumph and a third-place finish one year ago. Ridgeway, Ont. native Gary Lindberg is the defending champion of the race.

Friday night’s action will also see the final points night of the season for Brighton’s Vanderlaan Building Products RUSH Pro Late Models, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks, Bill’s Johns Comp 4s and Quinte Septic Stingers while the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club makes their final visit of the season.

RudolphSaturday marks the busiest night of the season with 265 feature laps scheduled across four divisions. The DIRTcar 358 Modifieds make their return to the speedway for the annual 100-lap showdown. ‘Super’ Mario Clair and “Mr. Small Block” Pete Bicknell have each won two Applefest Shootouts at Brighton. It will be a highly competitive field of drivers trying to prevent the two frontrunners from completing the hat-trick.

The Go Nuclear Late Model Series makes its only appearance of the year at Brighton for the 5th annual McDougall Insurance and Financial Great Crate Race presented by Excel Tower Service. Dale Caswell of West Monroe, NY is the two-time reigning winner of the event. The top five drivers in Brighton Speedway and Go Nuclear Series points are guaranteed starters in the event. Trenton’s Charlie Sandercock leads both sets of championship standings. Over 30 drivers are expected to battle for 24 starting spots in the 65-lap main event with $6000 on the line.

GreatCrateRace CaswellBrighton’s Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified division will decide their 2015 champion over 50 laps in the Danny Reid Memorial presented by John’s Equipment. Dan Ferguson enters the final night with a 35-point lead over fellow Picton native Andrew Hennessy. The championship chase is far from settled between the two drivers heading in to the final night.

The final showdown scheduled for Saturday night is the $1000-to-win, 50-lap Duel in the Dirt Pro Stock finale. The four track mini-series allows Pro Stock drivers from four tracks to compete against one another in a four-race mini-series which also includes two qualifying races at each home track. Dave Bailey, a regular at both Ohsweken and Merrittville Speedways, won the first series race at Humberstone Speedway on August 2. The second two races at Merrittville and Ohsweken were rained out on September 11 and 12, respectively. Bailey has a very slim two-point lead over Brighton point leader Justin Ramsay entering the final race.
