McKeown, Markland, Down, LeClair, Rinaldi and Burrows Win Night Seven of Kart Klub

BRIGHTON (July 30, 2015) – The Brighton Speedway Kart Klub was back to full speed on the mini oval Thursday night with 31 karts signed in for action over six divisions. It led to a busy, but fast night of racing.

Box Stock 1

IMG_0941Cooper McKeown (No.9) started fourth for the 10-lap Box Stock 1 feature but that didn’t stop the 5-year-old youngster from taking the lead on the opening lap. Outside pole starter Trevyn McCrillis (No.71) held down the second spot as he tried to track down Cooper for the race lead. Carson McKee (No.2) got turned around in turn two to cause a caution on lap eight. That gave Trevyn a shot at the lead, but he couldn’t catch the near perfect Cooper as Brooklyn Bowers (No.03) slipped past for the second spot. Carson, Colton Lockridge (No.5c) and Ryan Post (No.11r) completed the running order. Brooklyn and Cooper won the two qualifying heats.

Box Stock 2

IMG_0954Max McDonald (No.5) used his pole starting position to take the early lead in the Rookie 2 feature, but he had James Markland (No.21) all over his back bumper for the race lead. James managed to take the lead on lap five off of turn three and four. It also allowed Ryan Greig (No.48) to slip past for second. Ryan got within one kart length of James over the final five laps, but ran out of time to make a pass for the lead. Jace James (No.99j), Max, Asher Heard (No.52) and Jacob Down (No.57) completed the running order. Max and James won the qualifying heats.

Rookie 1

IMG_0950The front row for the Rookie 1 feature has Nathan Shorts (No.20) and Lexi Lucas (No.74) bring the field up to speed. Nathan took the early lead, but his advantage was erased by a lap three caution when Keira Turner (No.92) spun and lost power in turn three. Nathan held off Carson Down (No.55) until the final lap when Carson was able to take the bottom lane after some contact and took the lead all the way to the checkered flag. Nathan held on to second ahead of Carson Lemanis (No.C1), Claire McDonald (No.17), Keira Turner (No.92) and Lexi. Keira and Carson Down won the heats.

Rookie 2

IMG_0959The Rookie 2 division saw Chandler LeClair (No.48) and Holly Denard (No.02) on the front row for the initial start. Those two drivers broke away from the field and had a fantastic battle for the lead. On lap six, Holly drove a little too hard in to turn one and hit Chandler’s back bumper to spin the leader. Chandler was given his spot back as the leader while Holly went to the tail of the field. Cole McKeown (No.11) and Kaitlyn O’Blenis (No.23k) challenged for the lead, but Chandler was too fast and earned the win. Cole finished second, Kaitlyn third and Emma Terpstra (No.22) and Holly rounded out the field. Cole won the qualifying heat.

Jr. Sportsman

IMG_0953Nathan Rinaldi (No.3) parlayed a second-place starting spot in to a feature race win, leading all 15 laps for the victory. Rinaldi’s lead was a full straightaway over Kyle Anderson (No.17) with five laps complete, but Jordan Burrows (No.16) spun on the backstretch to bring out a yellow flag. Anderson couldn’t get close enough on the restart to challenge for the lead and Rinaldi claimed the victory while brother Anthony Rinaldi (No.77) and Jordan were third and fourth, respectively. Nathan also won the heat.

Jr. Restricted

IMG_0968The Jr. Restricted division’s 15-lap feature was a two horse race early on between Nathan Rinaldi (No.3) and Carissa Burrows (No.33c). Rinaldi led from the pole early on, but Carissa took over the point on a lap five restart following a caution when Brandon Gregory (No.1) suffered a broken front end. Rinaldi hung tight, but couldn’t pass for the lead again. Brockville Speedway regular Megan Ciglich (No.19) finished third. Carissa also won the qualifying heat.
