Hot Night & Even Hotter Action

For Immediate Release: Kiwanis Club of Trenton Kart Klub Race Report

A super hot July day changed to an evening with threatening rain clouds rolling in, but that didn’t stop races or fans from coming out some fantastic racing at the Kiwanis Kart Klub at Brighton Speedway!

First up, the Box Stock class hit the track with two drivers tied for the points lead: Bryce Massey and Colby Butcher.  The 29 of Butcher took the early lead and never looked back.  In a tight battle for most of the race Bryce and Rhys Massey and Brody Davidson were trading positions as laps clicked off.  In the end it was 29 of Butcher taking the win, followed closely by Davidson, Rhys Massey, Bryce Massey and rounding out the top five was the 44x of Tyler Green.

Next up was the Rookie 1 drivers – Shelby Sanderson and Colson Gregory were on the point. The #1 Gregory machine took his chance early and made a move to the top spot followed closely by a charging Finley Mahoney.  Apex Graphics – Kolby Ellis and hard charger Ethan Dobb picked off positions one by one as they made their way forward.  Hitting the final corner it was Gregory, Mahoney, Ellis, Dobb and points leader coming into the night Gabe Miller taking 5th.

Third on the track under threatening skies, the Junior Sportsman 1 field of eight karts with Jace James and Trevyn McCrillis holding the front row.  McCrillis jumped to the early lead from the outside pole and then moved to the inside line.  With only one caution in the race the fifteen-lap feature ran through very quickly.  Tyson Cooper coming from the third starting spot was McCrillis’ only challenge as they crossed the line McCrillis first, 37 of Cooper second, Jace James third, with 9t Garren Taylor, and Jacob Down finishing up the top five.

Rookie 2 class took to the track in fine form.  44 of Geoffrey Boates, 74 of Rush Waite held the field even coming out of corner four awaiting starter Leslie Mowat’s green flag!  It was a neck and neck battle until 01 of Tyson Gregory edged his way through from his third starting position and pulled out to a large lead.  Hard charger Callie Mahoney coming from the back of the pack was able to challenge for the second spot late in the race but couldn’t quite get it done.  Across the line it was Gregory, Boates, Mahoney, Waite and Ashton Sanderson picking up a fifth-place finish.

A field of 8 Junior Sportsman 2 racers pulled on the track – Lexi Lucas and Keira Turner had eyes on the flagstand as they rounded turn 4.  Early on it was the 92 of Turner with the lead until Carson McKee and the 99 of Cameron Bristow made their way forward. Points leader Carson Down was unable to make much ground from his starting spot as they hit the checkers it was McKee with the win, Bristow 2nd followed by Turner, Down and Lucas.

High powered Junior Restricted racers took to the track next.  After a rough week last week, Emma Terpstra and Anthony Rinaldi set out to redeem themselves on the little oval.  Early on there was more action on the track than the Canada Day fireworks show!  Sometimes three wide, positions constantly being traded in the eight-kart field.  Top points contender Holly Denard made her way from her sixth place starting position and grabbed the lead from Rinaldi.  As the checkers flew it was Denard, Rinaldi, Terpstra, the 83 of Koen O’Hara, and the 11 of Cole McKeown rounding out the top five.

Action on the little track will resume on July 19th at 7pm.  $5.00 entry.  Come see tomorrow’s dirt track stars make it happen!
