Salute to our Forces

The sun is shining bright and the competition is getting tight at the 1/3rd mile clay oval on the shores of Lake Ontario. After a rocky start it seems Mother Nature is enjoying her Saturday night excitement at Brighton Speedway and the competition is keeping her on the edge of her seat.  The Southern Ontario Sprints hit the track for their fourth tour visit last Saturday and thrilled fans with their speed and agility, using up the whole track to entertain.  This weekend the race card is packed again as we honour our Canadian Forces.  The CANEX presents the Salute to our Forces Night featuring the Vanderlaan Building Products Ltd. Late Models, Bainer’s OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Thunder Stocks, Bill’s Johns Comp 4 & Mini Stocks and the return of the Gord’s Water Vantastics.

Brighton Speedway is proud to partner with the CANEX in honouring our local troops.   With the largest air force base in Canada in the neighbouring city of Quinte West we have drivers, sponsors and fans who are members of the Canadian Forces.  It will be our honour to present a night of thrills and excitement in recognition of those we serve and their families who support them.

The action is getting increasingly intense as the season end is within sight.  The points battle is close in the Comp 4 division with only 35 points between No. 43 Devon Kippen and No. 44 Tommy Bailey.  Bailey is sitting with four feature finishes but Kippen’s consistency is keeping his ahead of the game.  This weekend could see a change in this class.

With a consistent 24 cars taking the green flag in the Brighton Automotive Thunder Class division the defending Champion No. 53 Wade Purchase is only 70 points behind No. 72 Doug Anderson.  Behind the two of them is No. 85 Austin Reid and his success this season makes him a strong contender for veteran Anderson and the defending Champ Purchase.  The Thunder Stock division has the opportunity to travel to the west with races in Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night for the Insta Panels Duel on the Dirt series.

Last Saturday night saw the completion of the ABC Taxi Canadian Modified Triple Crown Series. This three race home track series provides extra distance races in the early season and additional points fund money at the banquet.  Reigning Champion No. 87 Andrew Hennessy of Picton has tied with No. 14 Brandt Graham of Orono for the first-place title.  With a combined total of 142 points they beat No. 39 Jonah Mutton by only 5 points to round out top three.

The Vanderlaan Building Product Ltd. Late Model division Champion No. 57 Charlie Sandercock has a commanding lead over No. 29 Phil Potts but the gap is closing behind him after No. 55 Bradley Rayner’s commanding finish last weekend.  The side by side action and back and forth in points sets the stage for impressive racing and great entertainment for the viewing fans.

This Saturday’s schedule sees the Front Gates opening at 5:30 PM, Hot Laps will hit the track at 6:00 PM and the Green Flag will fly at 7:00 PM.  Grandstand admission with be; Adults $12.00 Youths & Seniors $10.00 Children 7-12 $3.00 Family Pass $28 Children 6 & Under Free.   All tickets are available at the Front Gate.  Canadian Forces Members can collect Free Tickets from the CANEX as quantities last.
