Sandercock’s 7th Brighton Win Earns Driver of The Week

By Clayton Johns

IMG_9746BRIGHTON (August 21, 2015) – Charlie Sandercock turned in a dominating performance last Saturday night at Brighton Speedway to earn his seventh RUSH Pro Late Model Weekly Series win of the season at Brighton. He now has 13 wins overall in 2015. His performance has earned the Driver of the Week honour for the week ending in August 15.

Heading in to Saturday’s race at Brighton, Sandercock and crew chief Tommy Haig decided to take a step back and look at the car from a fresh angle to get back in the winner’s circle.

“Tommy and I put our heads together and went over the car Saturday as we usually do. We changed a bunch of things and made sure our head was in the game and we didn’t over look things or didn’t over adjust,” Sandercock said.

After a fourth-place finish in the qualifying heat, Sandercock lined-up 11th for the main event. He wasted little time moving forward and took over second on lap 11 while running against the cushion before stealing the lead from Mark Rayner in traffic on lap 16.

“We kind of nailed the setup and had a couple of lucky breaks at the beginning. A couple of holes opened up for us and we didn’t have to battle a whole lot coming through traffic. That helped us a lot,” he explained.

IMG_8319The win came in dominant fashion as Sandercock claimed the win by 4.974 seconds over Adam Nayler. The No.57 team now has racked up enough victories to fill out their top 12 RUSH Weekly Series finishes completely with victories, including heir five wins at Can-Am Motorsports Park. Simply, Sandercock is motivated to keep winning at Brighton to collect bonus points with a $5000 RUSH championship prize on the line.

“We’ve got a solid year going. If we could rack up five more wins at Brighton Speedway, that would max it out, but that would mean we would have to win every race from here on out. We’re definitely going to try,” Sandercock said optimistically.

The team faces another doubleheader next week with a RUSH Weekly show at Brighton Saturday before heading south to Humberstone Speedway for round five of the Go Nuclear! Late Model Series tour.

“We’re going to go in to Humberstone with a clear mind and a ready racecar. We’re going to try and beat Lee Gill. He’s been on top of his game every race that he’s been out this year,” Sandercock said. “Hopefully we can regain the top spot in the Go Nuclear Series and keep going forward.”

Tickets for Towne and Country Liquidation and Read’s Accounting’s presentation of Weese Racing Anti-Bullying night are just $10. Spectator gates will open at 5:30pm before the first green flag at 7:00pm. Complete event information is available online at www.brightonspeedway.com.
