After a rare Saturday night off following the first ever appearance by the World of Outlaws Late Model tour, Brighton Speedway roars back to life as Brighton Automotive and Mystical Distributing present the Canada Day Championship and Custom Cart Pole Awards Saturday, June 29th.  Action around the 1/3rd mile clay oval includes the Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Model, OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modified, Brighton Automotive Pro Stock, Bill’s Johns Comp 4 and Quinte Septic Stinger divisions.  The starting order for the night’s qualifying heats will be determined by time trials, with runs against the clock beginning at 5:00.

With only 1 event cancelled due to inclement weather, the 2013 campaign has been one of the most competitive in the track’s history. Point battles in all regular classes are tighter than ever.  With 6 shows complete, there have only been 4 multiple feature race winners.  Last season’s most improved driver Steve Baldwin has recorded a pair of Late Model feature wins, as has Picton’s Corey Earl.  Andrew Hennessey has 2 Canadian Modified checkered flags, while multi-time track champion Doug Anderson has been to the Pro Stock winner’s circle on 4 occasions.  In all 5 regular divisions, close to 20 different drivers have taken a main event checkered flag.  Track promoter Mark Rinaldi says he expects the track championships to go right down to the wire.

“Every fan has a favourite driver and whenever we have a first time – or first time in a while – runner take the checkered flag, the place goes wild,” said Rinaldi.  “The car counts have been strong in every division since the opening night of the year.  Depending on how things work out on the track, I think every driver who rolls through the pit gate believes they have a chance to win.  That helps build a team’s confidence, gains fan support for the driver and could even translate to additional sponsorship.”

With approximately a third of the year’s events complete, Corey Earl leads the Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Model standings by 35 points over Baldwin.  Kingston’s Ryan Scott has a 60 marker advantage over Dan Ferguson in the OilGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modified chase, with Jay O’Hara enjoying a slim 15 point cushion on Anderson in the Brighton Automotive Pro Stock division.  By comparison, Tom Vance has a huge 145 point lead on Brandon Wilke in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 battle, while Jorden Pickell is a slight 10 points up on Steve Wells for the Quinte Septic Stinger lead.  With double track points up for grabs in every division, things will likely look entirely different when the final checkered flag waves.

Fans won’t want to miss a minute of the action as Brighton Automotive and Mystical Distributing present the Canada Day Championship and Custom Cart Pole Awards Saturday, June 29th at Brighton Speedway.  Time trials for all 5 regular divisions begin at 5:00 and the night’s action concludes with a Mystical Distributing fireworks display.
