Triple Set Of Wins Earns Tyler French Driver of the Month

BRIGHTON, Ont. – June 3, 2016 – Tyler French is off to the hottest start of any Brighton Speedway driver during the 2016 season. The Trenton, Ont. native racked up three wins and 760 of a possible 800 points in the opening month of the season. Perhaps most impressive is French is doing it with a different car than the one he drove to eight wins during the 2015 campaign.

“There hasn’t been much of a change from my first car last year. I remembered everything I did (with that car),” French said. “It’s the same setup and the same people working on the same type of car. It’s good to have the same team working on the same cars every year because you don’t forget much.”

So far this season, French’s worst result was a sixth-place finish on May 21 when he fought a big push in the car. He has worked the problem out of the car now and is primed for an even faster June, a scary thought for the rest of the field.

“I have it setup perfectly. My car hasn’t worked the same as the first two nights, but we figured it out. The car should be even faster this weekend,” French stated. “With that kind of racecar there’s not that much you can do. It’s all about the driving.”

French runs as part of the Dirty Fast Racing team, which includes Pro Stock drivers Justin Ramsay, and Canadian Modified rookie Shelby Mills. The trio, along with a dedicated crew, work together to make sure all three of their cars are in top shape. It comes with a little support as well from Kevin Empey, the owner of Empey Tire where both French and Ramsay are employed.

“I can’t thank my boss enough. He lets me bring my car to work when we’re busy and lets us wrench on it when we’re not doing anything else to make sure all the cars are done for the weekend,” French said. “If it wasn’t for Kevin, I wouldn’t really get much time to work on it.”

The driver of the Empey Tire/ABC Taxi No.0 also has an another reason to be excited about the 2016 campaign. He has two brothers, Matthew and Josh, racing alongside him this year.

“It’s pretty cool, we’ve never done it before. We’ve both substituted for people and been on the track at the same time, but we’ve never race a full season before,” he said. “I hope they get the bugs worked out of their cars, because last weekend was a lot of fun racing at the front with Matt, but made me nervous at the same time.”

After falling short of the championship last year by a single position to his teammate Mills, French is eager to earn himself the Comp 4 crown this time around.

“I want to try and take the championship. I know I have the car to do it and the right team,” French said. “I just have to be careful out there. Last year, the one black flag on the fourth night of racing cost me the championship.”

However, it won’t be easy. The Comp 4 division is as competitive as ever this season and French knows he’ll have to be at the top of his game to accomplish his goal.

“There’s a lot of good drivers out there. Some of them are still having some trouble working the bugs out of their car,” French explained, “but I can’t wait until they do because it’s going to be fun racing once everybody gets their cars working right. I can’t wait to start battling it out with them.”

Tyler French and the rest of the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 division return to action on Saturday, June 4 for the Workman’s OK Tire School Bus Races presented by Lange & Fetter Ford and Hotch’s Auto Parts. Gates open at 5:00pm for the 7:00pm race time.
