Turner Rebounds for Third Career Win; Earns Driver of the Week

By Clayton Johns

IMG_7453PICTON – Prior to last Saturday’s win in Brighton’s RUSH Pro Late Model division, Adam Turner started to wonder if he would ever find victory lane again. It was Turner’s third career win, but first since 2013 and first under RUSH sanctioning.

Turner has suffered mechanical woes this year including a blown motor in May. The No.92 team was able to stay in the point race with help from fellow competitor Kyle Sopaz who loaned a spare motor for two races. With support from major sponsors Village Variety and Gas Bar and Lewis Lacrosse, Turner was able to bolt in a new power plan. It paid off as he took the car to victory lane.

“It’s definitely a good feeling knowing how my luck has gone,” Turner said. “It’s nice to get the car back in the Winner’s Circle.”

IMG_2405For the first time in his career, Turner is behind the wheel of a brand new racecar in 2015. Throughout his racing career, Turner has always raced second-hand equipment. The Picton, Ont. driver changed that this off season when he purchased a brand new Lazer Chassis from Pennsylvania-based Bernheisel Race Components.

Turner hoped success would come sooner in the season with his new equipment, but is glad it arrived in the second month of the season.

“To get a win this early in the year is pretty good. I should have had the car this good earlier. After getting a new car, I was kind of bummed out,” he explained. “It definitely feels really good after not winning last year.”

The win on June 13 was a special night with Turner’s youngest daughter, Keaton, in attendance.

“The best part about it was having her there. She doesn’t go that often, so I didn’t know if I would ever get a picture with her there,” Turner said.

The Turners have a pair of trophies so far this year after Turner’s stepdaughter, Emma Terpstra, won a Kart Klub feature in May.

The victory has thrust Turner back in to the championship points chase at Brighton. He’s currently sixth in the standings, just 10 points from a top-five position. Turner also hopes to wheel his No.92 to a top-five in the Go Nuclear Late Model tour standings, a feat he last accomplished in 2013.

The next big task for Turner is to qualify for Saturday’s race against the Outlaws on his home turf.

“I’m just hoping to get in the show. If the track slicks up, we will be in good shape.”
